About Lanark Public Library
The Lanark Public Library has served the community since 1886 when it was founded by civic-minded citizens. Initially located above a downtown drugstore, the library moved to several locations over the years, including the home of Misses Emma and Estella White. In 1957, the library opened officially at 110 West Locust Street and later moved to 124 East Carroll Street in 1972. In 2013, the library moved into a new facility, continuing its mission of providing access to books, services, and programs that benefit the community.

Founded with donations from forty residents in 1886, the Lanark Public Library has a rich history of serving the community. It has grown significantly from its modest beginnings to a larger, well-equipped facility offering a wide range of resources, including digital archives, books, and public programs. The library has been a key part of Lanark’s cultural and educational development for over a century.
